he PhD Programme Students’ Society of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Silesian Freedom and Solidarity Centre invite scholars, students and the public to take part in the International Scientific Conference „Jan Patočka and others. Czech philosophy, history, politics and culture”, which is to be held on 2nd-3rd June, 2017 at the Katowice City of Gardens Cultural Institution (Katowice Miasto Ogrodów Instytucja Kultury), pl. Sejmu Śląskiego 2) and the Silesian Freedom and Solidarity Centre (Śląskie Centrum Wolności I Solidarności), ul. Wincentego Pola 38, in Katowice.
The Conference is dedicated to problematics concerning Czech society, its past and present. We would like to commemorate Jan Patočka, a spokesperson for Charter 77, the 40th anniversary of whose death occurs this year. We would like to talk about the concept of Middle Europe, the Czech lands’ cultural heritage, famous Czechs, Czech literature. Our reference points will be problematics of history and natural world, as well as the concepts of Europe, the nation, civilisation and war, all of which were contemplated by Patočka in his books and essays.
We are planning publication in the academic journal „Pisma Humanistyczne” for positively reviewed texts.
